What’s Breathwork
It all started when…
Breathwork refers to various techniques and practices that involve conscious control and manipulation of breathing patterns for the purpose of improving physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It encompasses a wide range of methods, from simple deep breathing exercises to more structured techniques such as pranayama in yoga or holotropic breathwork.
The practice of breathwork often involves rhythmic breathing patterns, focusing on the inhale, exhale, and the pauses in between. By consciously altering the breath, individuals aim to reduce stress, increase relaxation, improve concentration, enhance emotional regulation, and access altered states of consciousness.
The method I use is a variation of Holotropic breathwork which was developed by psychiatrist Stanislav Grof. Holotropic breathwork involves deep, rapid breathing in a supportive environment to access non-ordinary states of consciousness and promote self-discovery and healing.
